Oppo Reno has Nokia's OZO Audio recording tech

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 05:00 AM PDT

Just the other day Nokia Finland announced its poor Q1 2019 performance but it took the opportunity to brag about it's Nokia Technologies division. It turns out that Oppo's recently announced Reno flagship uses Nokia's OZO Audio technology. Even though it's not heavily marketed by the company, the Reno appears to be proficient not only in photography but also in audio recording as well. Nokia's OZO uses several microphones to capture high-quality audio from afar and in 360-degree radius so it would make sense that same technology is used for the so-called Audio Focus to hone in on...

Android Q's ‘Scoped Storage' requirement for apps pushed Android R in 2020.

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 08:00 PM PDT

Android Q introduced a new security-focused feature called "Scoped Storage". This feature is introduced with Android Q and changes the way that app interact with the device's storage. Basically, with Scoped Storage, each app would have its own 'sandbox' storage where it can run and store data. In turn, the apps would be limited to the sandbox and wouldn't have access to other parts of your storage. In its current state, Scoped Storage is causing issues with Android Q beta 2 users. Apps installed on the first beta worked just fine in the compatibility mode, which doesn't enforce the storage...

Realme RMX1901 certified in TENAA, similar to the supposed Oppo Reno lite

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 01:45 PM PDT

A new Realme device is appearing on the Chinese TENAA with a model number 'RMX1901'. It has a large 6.5-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and a 3,680 mAh battery. TENAA images also reveal that this unannounced Realme device doesn't have a visible fingerprint scanner, so it could possibly have an in-display scanner. Earlier this month, we saw another unreleased Oppo device with identical specifications and a similar design with the model number 'PCGM00/PCGT00' that was speculated to be the 'Reno lite' so it might give us some clues as to the Realme device's other specs. That Oppo...

To be clear, the Oppo Reno 10x zoom doesn't have 10x optical zoom (or 6x for that matter)

Posted: 26 Apr 2019 11:30 AM PDT

So after the excitement of the Oppo Reno launch event subsided, we were invited to attend a Q&A session with Oppo where a lot of technical questions were thrown around. A surprising discovery which came out of this talk was that the focal length of the Oppo Reno's three cameras is 16mm - 26mm - 130mm, respectively. Now take a careful look at those numbers. Whichever way you put it, there is no real 10x zoom factor there. Okay, Oppo never claimed one despite what the model name would have you believe. They spoke highly of their 10x hybrid zoom but not much else. So while trying to...

Another difference between both these versions is the 'G' logo which is darker on the...
