Oppo Reno launches in China tomorrow, is expected to cost 500 in Europe Posted: 18 Apr 2019 08:00 AM PDT The Oppo Reno will go on sale in China tomorrow. The 6/128GB version is still listed as unavailable on the official site (it's supposed to cost CNY 3,000), right now you can only pre-order the 6/256GB and 8/256GB versions (CNY 3,300 and CNY3,600, respectively). We'll see if that changes tomorrow. The official launch date and price for Europe are still kept under wraps, but rumor has it that the phone will be unveiled in Zurich on April 24 and it will cost 500 (presumably, this is for the base version). The Oppo Reno 10x zoom will also go global, but Oppo hasn't shared details about...
Samsung Galaxy Fold's display gets certified for supreme eye comfort Posted: 18 Apr 2019 07:00 AM PDT The new Samsung Galaxy Fold is making a lot of headlines these days and this report from the German TÜV Rheinland might help build some more hype. The lab has certified the Galaxy Fold for being safe for your eyes. The harmful blue light emissions emitted by the display have been brought to a minimum. A record-breaking 7% of the display's wavelengths fall in the 415-455nm spectrum that's bad for your eyes. Thus, the agency gave the phone an "Eye Comfort" certification. It appears that Samsung has mastered the production of OLED panels to a point where you don't need any...
Huawei Mate 20 X 5G in the works, Oppo Reno 10x zoom with 5G also pictured Posted: 18 Apr 2019 06:15 AM PDT Yesterday, China Unicom revealed that there is a 5G version of the Huawei Mate 20 X in the works, today the CEO of the Consumer division confirmed it. Note the Huawei's first 5G phone is the foldable Mate X and despite the similar names, this is the largest member of the Mate 20 family rather than the foldable phone. China Unicom posted an image of the device, which looks identical save for the 5G logo. As a quick reminder, the Mate 20 X has a 7.2" OLED display, Kirin 980 chipset and the same triple camera as the Mate 20 Pro. There will be one change, however, the battery capacity will...
Apple faces poor iPhone sales in Q2 Posted: 18 Apr 2019 05:30 AM PDT Apple revealed its financial results for the first fiscal quarter back in January, and the numbers showed poor sales of iPhones during the 2018 holiday period. Although there are two weeks until the Q2 report is here, analysts predict the trend will continue, and the company has sold no more than 45 million phones, which is more than 10% down on the 52 million amount a year ago. OTR Global issued a new investor note, saying Apple shipped between 37 million and 42 million iPhones, while Wall Street analysts expect slightly better outcome - 40 to 45 million phones. OTR said the main...
Tencent is looking to build a gaming phone, Asus, Razer and Black Shark may be involved Posted: 18 Apr 2019 04:45 AM PDT Chinese outlet 36KR reports that Tencent has contacted several phone makers about the possibility of making a gaming phone. This could be an own-branded device or it could be co-branded (three of the four makers already have their own gaming phones). Asus, Razer and Xiaomi's Black Shark are the potential partners, ODM Wentai is in the running as well. With strong brand names like these, you can see why a co-branded phone is an attractive option (and self-branded in the case of Wentai). The Tencent phone will most likely use a Snapdragon chipset. Not a huge surprise, given the gaming...
Nubia Red Magic 3 to arrive on April 28 Posted: 18 Apr 2019 04:00 AM PDT We've heard plenty of rumors about the upcoming nubia Red Magic 3, but now we have an official date for the launch of the gaming phone. It is April 28 and will take place at RNG's center in Beijing, China. While there are ten days until the event, we already know the phone will pack a Snapdragon 855 chipset and 12 GB RAM. The display will supposedly arrive with a screen that supports "higher refresh rate than most gaming PCs", so we expect 120 Hz frequency as the Razer Phone. Other specs of the nubia Red Magic 3 include a 5,000 mAh battery, hybrid cooling (air + liquid), and...

Asus ZenFone Live (L2) arrives with minor improvements and new colors Posted: 18 Apr 2019 02:25 AM PDT Asus is adding a new entry-level phone to its lineup - the ZenFone Live (L2). The phone appeared on the company's global site unannounced and seems like a minor upgrade over last year's ZenFone Live (L1). Like its predecessor, the Live (L2) brings a 5.5-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The front features a 5MP selfie cam and LED flash, which supports facial recognition and that's all the biometric security you get in the absence of a fingerprint scanner. You'll get a Snapdragon 425 for the 16GB model and slightly more powerful Snapdragon 430 for the 32GB variant. Both...
Samsung issues statement after some early Galaxy Fold displays fail Posted: 18 Apr 2019 01:30 AM PDT Wednesday was not a good day for Samsung. On Monday it delivered the first units of its innovatve flagship device - the Samsung Galaxy Fold, but a couple of days later, at least four of the devices' inner displays failed. By "failed", we mean the display panel is destroyed and content can no longer be viewed on the display. Dieter Bohn of The Verge, and Steve Kovach of CNBC, have experienced failure of the display under normal operation. The screen on my Galaxy Fold review unit is completely broken and unusable just two days in. Hard to know if this is widespread or not....
Lenovo Z6 Pro to have four cameras on the back Posted: 18 Apr 2019 12:30 AM PDT Lenovo is introducing the Z6 Pro on Tuesday in Beijing. We know the phone will have Hyper Video and the announcement was accompanied by a picture, showcasing one camera. Apparently, that image is fake, because today Lenovo revealed the actual camera setup - there will be four shooters on the back, one of them with a 48 MP sensor. Four-camera setup teaser AnTuTu screenshot The teaser, spotted on Lenovo VP's page on Weibo, suggests a vertical setup for all four snappers. One of them will be separated from the others, but we'll see if that's the many snapper or one of the...

With its 7.2-inch display and 5,000 mAh battery, it caters to a niche market of folks who need a huge device. Not long after finding out about what changes the Mate 20 X 5G could face, an image of the phone's retail packaging surfaced on Twitter and was posted by Slashleaks contributor, @Sudhanshu1414. The image was perhaps reposted from Chinese social media site Weibo and shows a retail box for... |

The battery is also slightly smaller at 3,070 mAh and only supports 18W fast... |

There will be several changes in order to accommodate the extra hardware needed for the 5G radios. The report says that the 5G iteration will retain the humongous 7.2-inch display but will sport a significantly smaller battery - 4,200 mAh as opposed to the 5,000 mAh on the standard Mate 20 X. It will also support the 40W SuperCharge charging tech by Huawei, which the vanilla Mate 20 X lacks. If you looking... |
Google Pixel 3 now takes selfies automatically when you're kissing someone Posted: 17 Apr 2019 04:30 PM PDT When Google introduced the Pixel 3 back in the fall of 2018, its camera properly impressed us. Now Google introduces Photobooth as a new mode which automatically takes photos when the camera is steady and subjects have good expressions with their eyes open. To train its AI to recognize facial expressions, Google used a variation of the Image Content Model (ICM), trained for Google Clips....
Apple's latest shot on iPhone XS video is here Posted: 17 Apr 2019 02:59 PM PDT Apple has released a new video in the 'Shot on iPhone XS' series, titled "Don't Mess with Mother". The video features captivating landscape and wildlife footage to the tune of Megadeth's "Last Rites". It's a nice video, but again, 'Shot on iPhone XS' means little in the real world. As Apple itself states "Additional hardware and software used", meaning that the iPhone XS was just the framework for the video and that the phone was likely strapped with specialized lenses and the footage was then edited by pros on professional editing software. In other words you wouldn't be able to pull off...
Apple readying 4.7-inch iPhone with A13 chip for March 2020 Posted: 17 Apr 2019 01:30 PM PDT New rumors from the supply chain claim Apple is preparing a new iPhone with a 4.7-inch screen, A13 chipset and 128GB of storage for release in March 2020. Rumors say this iPhone will cost around $650. Given its display size this will likely be a reshelled iPhone 8 and given its purported March release, it's likely the successor to the iPhone SE. Apple will release three iPhones in 2019 - updated iPhone XI and XI Max with OLED screens and triple cameras (ultra-wide, regular and tele) and an iPhone XR successor, which will likely retain the LCD and gain dual camera (regular + either...
Samsung Galaxy M20 update promises improved charging speed Posted: 17 Apr 2019 12:00 PM PDT An update is rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy M20, which promises to speed up charging. The phone has a massive 5,000mAh battery and comes bundled with a relatively fast 15W charger (same as the S10 flagships got). We haven't seen any complaints about charging speeds, so it's not quite clear what is the issue that Samsung fixed. The update also improves the general stability and performance of the phone, according to the change log. Update for the Samsung Galaxy M20 This is a small update, just a 73MB download, so the base software is unchanged - the phone remains on Android...
