Posted: 01 Apr 2019 08:30 AM PDT

Oppo VP Brian Shen posted full-resolution camera samples from the Oppo Reno. Well, 12MP photos at least, the phone is supposed to have a 48MP main sensor (likely a Quad Bayer). Shen says these are straight from the phone with no post-processing. Oppo Reno "Standard Edition" camera samples (12MP) Note that Shen calls this the "Reno Standard Edition", which may explain why we didn't see a 10x zoom camera on the back of the leaked official images. A Snapdragon 710 powered Reno passed through AnTuTu a few days ago. The rumors also describe a Snapdragon 855 version of...

The Xiaomi Mi 9 has shipped more than 1 million units worldwide. The phone launched in late February, so it hit this milestone in about a month. Adding the Mi 9 SE shipments, the total raises to over 1.5 million units (presumably this includes the Explorer version too). Note that the SE isn't available globally yet. Mi 9 reaches 1 million shipments • Combined with the Mi 9 SE the number grows to 1.5 million Last year, the Mi 8 series - not just the Mi 8 itself, but the Explorer and SE too - sold 1 million units in under three weeks. Galaxy S7 down to quarterly security updates, same as the new Galaxy A70

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 07:00 AM PDT

When it comes to security updates, Samsung's Android-powered devices roughly fall into two categories - ones that get monthly updates and ones that get a security patch once every three months. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, now three years old, continue to be supported but they will no longer be getting monthly updates (the S7 active was spared this fate, however). The Galaxy Note FE is technically from 2017, but is really a reborn Note7 from 2016 so it too goes down to the quarterly schedule. It's not entirely based on age, however. Samsung's flagships - S8 and younger - are treated to...

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 05:30 AM PDT

In a day like April Fools' you would expect all kinds of shenanigans from tech companies. You would think a smartphone with dual selfie cameras in a notch on the bottom side of the screen sounds like a joke, but the actual funny part is that this is real patent Xiaomi requested from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Nubia Alpha coming April 8

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 01:51 AM PDT

The nubia Alpha is a unique device, it has all the capabilities of a smartphone but it's supposed to be worn on your wrist. You can track your fitness progress, control your audio and notifications just like other smartwatches but what separates the Alpha is that it can also make calls, take pictures and do basically everything your phone can, autonomously. Today we learned that the smartphone (as nubia likes to call it) is scheduled for release on April 8 in China on all the major e-commerce platforms. We got a chance to play around with the device at MWC and while it does have some...

However, today official renders of the phone were spotted on the Chinese retailer website JD.com and there is no triple setup whatsoever. We can see only the notchless front and a dual camera setup, along with some fancy colors and some unique design elements. Nutritional info on Android versions: KitKat has a lot of calories, Froyo was healthiest

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 12:10 AM PDT

People are always concerned about the SAR of phones and software bloat, but why isn't anyone talking about how calorie dense modern operating systems have become? Android offers nothing but sweets! To educate the public, we did some research on the various Android versions. This wasn't as easy as it sounds since the names can be a bit vague. For example, "Android 9.0 Pie" doesn't specify the flavor. Looking at official images though, it's pretty clear that it is cherry pie. Note that the scoop of ice cream is optional, so we didn't include it in the numbers below. Portion sizes...

Huawei P30 Pro to arrive in India on Amazon

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 10:45 PM PDT

Huawei launched the P30 and P30 Pro on the global scene, but the phone is yet to hit India. Today the company posted a landing page on Amazon, preparing fans for the local market launch. Sadly, the website is yet to reveal any details like pricing, color options, pre-order and launch dates, etc. We only know the most powerful variant will be the 8/256 GB option for the P30 Pro, and we are likely to see the vanilla P30 arrive as well. Usually, the P30 Lite is part of the family only on paper, so the Kirin 710-powered midranger is probably due for a separate launch later this...

Top 10 trending phones of week 13

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 07:00 PM PDT

Samsung started a massive offensive with its refreshed Galaxy A and Galaxy M series. Last week we saw seven devices by the Korean manufacturer in our Top 10 list, but this time they got reduced to just six, making way for the newly announced Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro. However, Samsung Galaxy A50 keeps its top spot, followed by the Huawei's flagship with 10x zoom and then by another new announcement from this week - Samsung Galaxy A70. The Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro saw themselves kicked out of the podium, taking spots four and five this week. Then we have the vanilla Huawei...

Week 13 in review: Huawei P30 family is finally official

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 03:00 PM PDT

The star of the past week is definitely the Huawei P30 Pro that was finally unveiled in Paris, France. It was accompanied by the vanilla P30 and plenty of gadgets, while their more affordable sibling P30 Lite silently started popping up in random markets. Xiaomi tried to rain on Huawei's parade, mocking the P30 and P30 Pro for using a dated chipset, despite the Kirin 980 actually being the latest by HiSilicon. The company also posted another teaser of its foldable device and suggested 100W charging might be around the block. In other news, Samsung Galaxy A70 went official, more Oppo...

Nokia 9 PureView in for review

Posted: 31 Mar 2019 11:00 AM PDT

Ever since the return of Nokia under HMD Global ownership in the beginning of 2017, everyone's been asking where the proper flagship is. The Nokia 8 was sort of that, but it failed to impress, and then the Nokia 8 Sirocco missed the mark too, if it was even going for it at all. In comes the Nokia 9 PureView. PureView is more than a brand - the moniker holds an iconic status among Nokia loyalists thanks to phones like the Nokia 808 and the Lumia 1020 that were unmatched in their camera prowess back in their days. The Nokia 9 PureView has big shoes to fill then, and it certainly...
